Known to Rocky Mount natives as The birthplace for Hardees, The Legacy Project is currently for sale or lease. “The Centura Tradition: Building Community Since 1899” exhibit honors Centura Bank and its predecessors – Planters National Bank and Peoples Bank & Trust – that became part of the fabric of Rocky Mount and the region because of a commitment to customer service and community.
These financial institutions supported eastern North Carolina’s family farmers by designing special banking services and financing the mills and transportation networks that connected farmers to their markets.

In efforts to promote The Legacy Project, Carolantic Reality spotlighted “The Mills” and Downtown Rocky Mount. There are interviews with Alan Matthews, Director of Economic Development with the City of Rocky Mount, as well as John Jesso, Downtown Development Manager with the City of Rocky Mount.
The diversified economy that has blossomed from a textile and tobacco industry now has a brew scene and with the opening of the Rocky Mount Event Center happening in October 2018 the metamorphous and transition into a new era is obvious and happening rapidly. Dan Gerlach president of the Golden Leaf Foundation feels that any employer would be happy to come to Rocky Mount because of the high quality of workforce here.
