“Larema Coffee House is a coffee shop and gathering space coming soon to downtown Rocky Mount. It will be a safe, welcoming space for all members of the Rocky Mount community to come together, connect, and express creativity, while enjoying high-quality, fresh, healthy, and affordable hand-crafted beverages and foods. The coffee will be sourced from all over the world, then roasted in Durham, N.C. by Counter Culture Coffee. A range of teas, hot chocolate, pastries, salads, sandwiches, desserts, local beer, wine, and kombucha will also be on offer. Housed in the Alford Building at the corner of Tarboro and Washington Streets (built in 1910), the physical space will include a stage for live music and community events, a variety of seating options, and a meeting room within the original bank vault. Strong wifi for all, as well as private office spaces rented monthly, will be available for those who wish to co-work.
I chose to pursue this venture in Rocky Mount because this city is wonderfully diverse, with lots of creative energy, and I saw an opportunity to create a space for everyone to come together, connect, belong, and share life. Downtown Rocky Mount has lots of beautiful, historic buildings, and I saw the chance to help breathe life into such a building as a great way to both honor the past and add a new chapter to the story.”
