The Unity Affair Series is a monthly outdoor social distancing event that offers live entertainment, food, beverages, and artisan crafts for the Rocky Mount Community in our beautiful, historic downtown district. For September, the affair will be hosted by Larema Coffee House, in the parking lot adjacent to the building on Washington Street (between Larema and Harambee Square). To be held on Friday, September 25, 6-10pm, the upcoming event will include an Open Mic to be hosted by local creative arts group The Mount Collective, performances by Marcus Anderson (Trax Coffee Bar Owner) and live jazz with The Mac McLaughlin Group, and will conclude with music and social-distance dancing with fun local DJ Art Rob the Heart Throb. Food will be provided by Moe & D’s, D Chill Spot, and Lillie Mae’s Kitchen. Beverages will be provided by Spaceway Brewing and Harlem Brewing. Larema Coffee House will be open for limited indoor seating, and will provide a range of beverages & foods. Local makers will have tables to share their goods, including The Bath Place, Neema & Company, Tan + Teal Jewelry, and Natural High Smoothies. The affair fosters community pride and strengthens relationships among a very diverse audience.
The first two Unity Affair events were very successful experiences for everyone, including families. They have been fun, safe, well-managed, and generated much-needed economic and social benefits to the Rocky Mount community. Social-distanced seating, masks, and heightened sanitation practices were required and respectfully enforced. Local businesses benefited from supporters resulting in retail sales and awareness. Everyone enjoyed the Marcus Anderson Band! It truly reflected a sense of unity during a time we need it most.
