After over 30 years employed by the City of Rocky Mount, Garland Clark retired in June of this year as a Gas District Manager. However, that is just a fraction of who he is, and does not capture his value and contribution to the development of downtown.
Garland is a passionate and skilled carpenter who became attracted to downtown buildings in 2012. He has since that time, single-handedly undertaken renovation of FOUR formerly and severely delipidated buildings. Not only were the buildings beautifully restored, Garland also drew upon his vision and creativity to design the properties to attract needed services for downtown.
Specifically, one property was designed to house a multi-chair barber shop in the front, private salon spaces throughout, and second floor residential. Two properties house two downtown restaurants and a third houses a dress shop.
Mr. Clark was on the front-end of recent downtown development, encouraging and assisting those that followed. He is a pioneer and consummate advocate for downtown, and a worthy NC Main Champion.
