Recently Downtown Rocky Mount launched the new downtown brand, with the tagline “Enjoy the CHARM of Downtown Rocky Mount.” The key message “Enjoy the CHARM” is meant to describe what Downtown Rocky Mount is all about. The branding effort encompasses not only a new look for downtown and marketing messages, but a vision for the future and development recommendations for how to get there.

When we think about Downtown Rocky Mount, a few things immediately come to mind, such as its perfect location as the midway point of the east coast, and the rich history of the area, including the resurgence of the craft culture in the region. Rocky Mount is also known as the urban hub for surrounding communities for decades, which has provided crucial education and employment opportunities to drive northeastern North Carolina’s economy. We wanted people to know what we were about; to tell everyone the story of Rocky Mount. So, the Downtown Development Office has decided that everyone needs to know about the CHARM of Rocky Mount!

Rocky Mount exemplifies integration and inclusion as it is located in both Nash and Edgecombe Counties, with downtown serving as the adhesive that brings both communities together. Rocky Mount’s core district resides at the junction of Interstate I-95 and State Highway NC-64, and our Amtrak Station is located in Downtown’s Historic District. We are less than 3 hours from the beach and 5 hours from the mountains. Raleigh, Goldsboro, and Greenville are all easy commutes from the city center. With an Amtrak station located on Main Street, Downtown Rocky Mount is easily accessible from all over the country by car, bus or train.

Downtown Rocky Mount has a rich history of legendary athletes, musicians, architecture and overall culture. Downtown is unique in many ways, but one of the most exciting is the repurposing and renovation of historic buildings. Originally a tobacco warehouse, our Downtown Imperial Center of the Arts & Sciences is home to our Children’s Museum with rotating exhibits, our Art Gallery that showcases internationally renowned art installations, a theater with a host of well-known plays, and its own planetarium. The Rocky Mount Mills, an old cotton mill that is in the process of being renovated houses craft breweries, residential and office spaces, with more development to come in the future. The Douglas Block, originally the African American business district during segregation is once again brimming with activity as the beautifully refurbished district houses several successful businesses, stunning apartments, and community events.

Downtown Rocky Mount is cultivating the northeastern North Carolina’s creative class by providing artistic amenities such as the Bel Air Artisan Center artist incubator, the gallery and theatre at the Imperial Center for Arts and Sciences, craft breweries at Rocky Mount Mills, performance and entertainment opportunities at the Dunn Center for Performing Arts at North Carolina Wesleyan College, and so much more.
