On Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, city of Rocky Mount staff observed that the north gate at the Tar River Water Supply Reservoir had lowered approximately four feet due to an equipment malfunction. The south gate, repaired in June 2017, remains in its fully upright position, and the Tar River is expected to remain within its banks
Although the city had planned to delay any additional work at the dam until after water conservation season had ended, the department will present an emergency repair authorization resolution to city council at their regularly scheduled meeting this afternoon (9/25/17). This scope of work will effect the repairs on the north gate.
Once approved by city council, the city’s intent would be to begin work on the repairs at the dam as soon as bids are received and a purchase order can be issued for a contractor to mobilize and begin work.
